Tea Cocktail: Maple Mule
November 18, 2020As the trend of conscious drinking continues to rise, mocktails and zero-proof drinks have become increasingly popular. Tea is a versatile ingredient that can be used to create delicious, complex drinks. One of our favorite tea mocktails is an Old Fashioned made with Bourbon Breakfast.
Bourbon Breakfast tea is a black tea blend that has been aged in bourbon barrels, lending it a rich and smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with notes of orange and cherry you might find in an Old Fashioned. It’s a great alternative for those who enjoy the complexity of a classic cocktail but want a non-alcoholic option.
Whether you’re a tea lover or simply looking for a new and exciting mocktail to try, our Old Fashioned is a great place to start.
Ingredients:
3 tsp Bourbon Breakfast loose tea
2 tsp agave OR German rock sugar
1 orange wheel
2 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)
Amarena or maraschino cherry, for garnish
Make Bourbon Breakfast simple syrup: Combine Bourbon Breakfast loose tea and agave or German rock sugar in a measuring cup or Smart Tea Steeper. Add 4oz of water (heated to at least 195F) and steep for 5 minutes.
Make the drink:
Add a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker (not too much or you’ll water down the concentrate). When the tea is finished steeping, strain into the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
In a rocks glass, add your orange wheel and muddle just a bit.
Add a giant ice cube or 4 regular size ice cubes to the glass.Top with 2 dashes of bitters.
Strain your chilled Bourbon Breakfast tea into the glass. Stir gently to combine. Garnish with a cherry.
