Cold brewing tea is one of the easiest ways to make iced tea, and our Takeya pitcher with steeping basket makes it even simpler. Add your tea, add your cold or room temperature water, and put it in the fridge for at least 1 hour. We recommend using the same tea amounts as when making hot tea: 1 heaping teaspoon of dried tea per 8oz of water.
One of our favorite reasons to cold brew tea, particularly white, green, and oolong teas, is because this method draws less tannins from the tea as it steeps (as opposed to steeping tea hot and then icing it), allowing for a slightly different flavor profile. There is no time limit on how long to steep cold brew tea, it never gets bitter or oversteeped, simply gets bolder and fuller in flavor. Some literature also supports the idea that similar to how it extracts less tannins from the tea leaf, cold brew tea also extracts less caffeine than a hot steep, making it an ideal method of preparation for those who are caffeine sensitive.
