Green teas all share one important characteristic-they are never allowed to oxidize. This is the primary trait that distinguishes green teas from other types of teas and it is achieved by heating the leaf soon after it is harvested. This particular tea is bake cured, which contributes to the tea’s delicate nutty characteristic.

The heating process also preserves the chlorophyll content which contributes to the green color of the finished product and a more vegetal and herbaceous flavor profile than other types of tea.

Green teas contain a high concentration of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may help to neutralize cell damaging free radicals found in the body. Scientists are still exploring antioxidants and their potential benefits as well as the overall affects of tea on various diseases and conditions. Unfortunately, not enough research has been conducted yet to make any sweeping statements confirming that drinking tea will help prevent cancer, trigger weight loss or cure cardiovascular disease. Nevertheless, the evidence is highly suggestive that, at the very least, tea is conducive to an overall healthy lifestyle.

Various studies have attributed different health benefits to different tea families. While new and updated information is available all the time, researchers believe regular consumption of green tea may be linked to the following health benefits: lower blood pressure levels, cavity prevention, blood sugar regulation, weight loss, increased longevity of life, and helping with symptoms of depression.
