Heritage Golden Monkey

A relatively new tea developed within the last fifteen years, Golden Monkey has quickly become a popular favorite due to its smooth, lightly sweet flavor. From China’s Fujian province, our Golden Monkey is medium bodied with hints of semi-sweet chocolate. “Tippy” teas like Golden Monkey are sweeter because the tips (new growth) used to produce them contain more glucose at the time of harvest.

Golden Monkey is a single estate (single plantation, single harvest) black tea.  Though all tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant, black teas differs in that it is fully oxidized.  The tea’s golden tips represent the tips of the newest leaves on the plant.  They are picked so early in their growth that they do not contain the same chemical composition as the larger, older leaves and so they do not darken during the oxidation process.

Golden Monkey is bold enough for a breakfast tea, but also pairs beautifully with an afternoon tea service. Golden Monkey also pairs beautifully with chocolate. You can also serve it with pecan pie or raspberries.

We recommend steeping Golden Monkey for 3 minutes at 195°.
