Moroccan Mint


A traditional Moroccan beverage popularized around the end of the nineteenth century. Organic Chinese green gunpowder tea flavored with fresh peppermint. Refreshing hot or iced.


Moroccan Mint is always a crowd pleaser and we often recommend it in our shop whenever someone comes in requesting something refreshing.  (and yes, sometimes our customers give us nothing more to go on than that…)

Gunpowder green tea is one of the most widely produced teas in China and is rolled into tiny pellets resembling gunpowder, hence the name.  It often has a slightly smoky flavor and it can sometimes appear a bit cloudy due to the tightly rolled leaf.

The Moroccans traditionally drink this tea quite sweet and often pour it from a great height in order to aerate the tea and create a froth at the top of the glass.

We recommend steeping Moroccan Mint for 1-2 minutes at 180°.  Steep it for a full two minutes if you want to bring out the smoky flavor of the gunpowder (no pun intended…) or closer to one minute if you prefer a crisper green tea flavor. For a cool refreshing iced mint tea, pour steeped Moroccan Mint over ice. Turn the tea sweet by adding Savannah Honey or your favorite sweetener.

(food pairing) Drink Moroccan Mint with Moroccan dishes, mint-flavored desserts or chocolate.  It can also be served between courses or after dinner to aid digestion.
