Succulent peach and a hint of apricot are the perfect complement to this Formosa oolong’s bold, earthy flavor.  The light, fruit flavors are well balanced by the oolong’s rich layers.

Our Peach Oolong makes a great iced tea.  Bolder and more complex than most white or green teas, Peach Oolong stands up well to the addition of ice. Try pairing Peach Oolong with duck, ginger, apricots or plums.  It also does well with peach or pecan pie.

Oolongs are only partially oxidized.  That is how they differ from other types of tea.  Whereas black teas are fully oxidized and green teas are completely un-oxidized, oolongs fall somewhere in between amidst a wide spectrum of flavor profiles.  Our Peach Oolong falls toward the more oxidized end of the spectrum, giving it its earthy character.

 Taiwan’s tea production is relatively small compared to other major tea growing regions.  They produce less than 20,000 tons of tea each year, a vast majority of which is consumed domestically. Most Taiwanese tea gardens are very small operations compared to their Chinese and Indian counterparts.  Many of them are still family owned and they focus primarily on specialty oolongs.

The term Formosa refers to oolongs grown in Taiwan.  Formosa, meaning “beautiful island” was the name chosen by Portuguese explorers in the early 1500s for the island now known as Taiwan. It was the name used when tea was first introduced to Taiwan in the mid 1850s and it has been retained by the tea industry over 150 years later.

We recommend steeping Peach Oolong for 3 minutes at 195°.
